Cerivastatin and fatal rhabdomyolysis: not just a safety issue

El uso de las estatinas se justifica en prevención secundaria (cuando hay isquemia de miocardio) pero son de dudosa utilidad en la prevención primaria (cuando no hay isquemia coronaria). En este breve texto se comenta la mortalidad por cerivastatina, por rabdomiolisis, y se pide que los grupos que sustentaron su uso presenten un re-análisis de los datos, y su justificación.
The cerivastatin fatal rhabdomyolysis affair should be use as an example to stimulate reconsideration of the whole process of drug approval, marketing and use, as occurred after thalidomide was found to cause adverse effects to the foetus. It is not just a safety issue.
